Chester County veterans can sign up for free discount cards accepted at roughly 100 local businesses on Saturday, Sept. 12, at State Sen. Katie Muth's annual Veterans Expo in Oaks.
More than 60 veterans organizations and service providers will pack Hall C of the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to myChesco. Admission is free for veterans who live in Pennsylvania's 44th Senate District, which covers portions of Chester, Montgomery and Berks counties.
Advance registration is required.
Discount cards and county services
Staff from both the Chester County and Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds offices will be on-site to help eligible veterans apply for free photo ID cards. The Chester County program provides a card good for discounts at about 100 participating businesses across the county. The card is issued at no charge after a veteran's DD-214 discharge paperwork is recorded.
Veterans who have not yet applied should bring a copy of their DD-214 documents.
Vaccinations and lunch
Skippack Pharmacy will offer flu, COVID-19, RSV, pneumonia, shingles and tetanus vaccinations to attendees who bring a valid health insurance card.
Registered veterans and one guest will receive a free lunch from Mission BBQ.
State officials expected
Maj. Gen. John Pippy, Pennsylvania's adjutant general and head of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, is scheduled to attend and meet with veterans.
Muth, a Democrat, said in an Aug. 27 Facebook post that the expo gives veterans of all ages a chance to connect with local and statewide organizations and make sure they are accessing the benefits they have earned.
