West Chester-area shoppers cannot place Giant grocery orders online or through the app after parent company Ahold Delhaize shut down those systems in response to a cyberattack.

The incident first hit Ahold Delhaize's network on Monday, Oct. 12, the Daily Local reported. The Netherlands-based company took some systems offline as a precaution. As of Wednesday, Oct. 14, Giant's website and app were still not accepting orders, and no timeline for restoration had been given.

All four West Chester Giant locations remain open during normal hours. That includes stores at 1375 Boot Rd., 1393 Dilworthtown Xing, 1502 West Chester Pike and 698 Downingtown Pike. Pharmacies and fuel stations at those locations are also operating, the company said.

In a statement updated Oct. 14, Ahold Delhaize said it has "no evidence at this moment that customer, associate and partner data was taken in this cybersecurity incident." The company said it is working with internal and external cybersecurity experts and engaging with authorities, Insurance Journal reported.

Giant said it is "working to restore service as quickly as possible" in a notice posted on its website landing page. Any unfulfilled orders placed through Giantfoodstores.com or the Giant app will be refunded, the company said.

The outage stretches beyond Giant. Ahold Delhaize owns Stop & Shop, Hannaford, Food Lion and Giant Food stores across the eastern United States.

BleepingComputer reported that Stop & Shop employees were having trouble accessing schedules and pay stubs. Customers at Ahold Delhaize brands in the Netherlands and Belgium also lost access to online platforms.

This is the second major cybersecurity incident to hit Ahold Delhaize in recent years. A November 2024 ransomware attack compromised personal and financial information belonging to 2.2 million individuals, according to Insurance Journal.

Shoppers who need delivery in the meantime can order through Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats, which remain available for Giant store purchases.
