Andrew McMullen has spent 25 years working for Chester County, climbing from part-time maintenance worker to the person who runs all of its parks and trails.

The county's Board of Commissioners recognized McMullen and other employees who reached similar service milestones at a recent board meeting, according to a county announcement published Oct. 15.

McMullen rose through the ranks as a Regional Park Ranger, then Assistant Parks and Trails Manager, before taking on his current role as Parks + Trails Manager. He handles day-to-day management and operations across the county's seven parks and three regional trails.

That system covers more than 4,400 acres and over 35 miles of trails, according to the county's Parks + Trails page. The parks include Nottingham, Wolf's Hollow, Hibernia, Springton Manor Farm, Black Rock Sanctuary, Warwick and Exton County Park. The trails are the Struble Trail, a roughly 9.5-mile section of the Schuylkill River Trail and 13.5 miles of the Chester Valley Trail.

The Parks + Trails division is based at 601 Westtown Road in West Chester.
