The Chester County History Center is running a walking tour through West Chester's darkest chapters, with nine dates still available through Halloween and into November.

"Chilling West Chester: A Dark History Walking Tour" takes visitors past the Chester County Courthouse and the old Chester County Prison, covering two centuries of killings, explosions and disasters drawn from the History Center's archives. The tour covers about 1.5 miles of borough streets and alleys, all outdoors, and lasts 90 to 100 minutes.

The History Center describes the program as true accounts of murder and misadventure pulled from its own records. The tour is led by the center's historians and educators, according to the event listing on the CCHC website.

Remaining dates are Oct. 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 28, 29 and 31, plus Nov. 4, as listed by The Times. The Oct. 17 tour has already taken place.

Tickets cost $20 per person. CCHC members receive a 20% discount with a code. Tickets are nonrefundable, and proceeds support the History Center's educational programs.

The History Center warns the content is not suitable for children because of its graphic nature. Anyone with questions about the material can contact the center at [email protected].

Tours run rain or shine, so the History Center advises dressing for the weather. Sidewalks along the route include brick sections that may be uneven. Service dogs are welcome, but other pets are not allowed.

The Chester County History Center is at 225 North High St. in West Chester.
