The Goshen Fire Company will build a garage for its fire trucks and overhaul aging systems at its Park Avenue firehouse after state legislators announced an $800,254 grant on Thursday.
State Reps. Kristine Howard (D-167th) and Chris Pielli (D-156th) said the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program award will fund construction of the bay, replacement of worn-out building infrastructure, renovation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and parking improvements at the station that serves East Goshen, West Goshen and surrounding communities.
The volunteer company has already logged 496 fire calls, 2,789 EMS calls and 170 fire police calls in 2026, according to its website. The firehouse, built in 1950 and last significantly renovated in 1993, operates from stations on Park Avenue in West Chester and Greenhill Road in northern East Goshen.
Pielli, a former West Goshen Township supervisor whose father served in the FDNY, said the grant reflects an obligation to support the volunteers who protect Chester County neighborhoods.
"When our state dollars are going back to our first responders, that's responsible government at work helping to protect the health, safety and welfare of our residents," Pielli said in the announcement.
Howard said she was thankful the funding would reach those who risk their lives for the community. Pielli's office reported securing nearly $6.6 million in state grants for infrastructure and first-responder projects across his district in 2025, making the Goshen award part of a broader pattern of capital investment in local emergency services.
The fire company's biggest annual fundraiser, the 77th Goshen Country Fair, runs Monday, July 27 through Saturday, August 1 at 1320 Park Avenue, West Chester. Gates open at 6 p.m. daily (5 p.m. Saturday), with free admission and parking.
