West Chester University Athletic Director Terry Beattie has been elected chair of the NCAA Division II Championships Committee.

Beattie's term begins Tuesday, Sept. 1. He takes over a body that shapes how all Division II national championships are structured and administered across the association's 300-plus member schools.

The committee sets championship formats and selection criteria, determines host sites, reviews bracket sizes and access ratios, manages championship budgets and enforces competitive equity across Division II sports. As chair, Beattie will guide the committee's agenda and represent its work to the broader Division II governance structure.

"I'm looking forward to continuing that work on behalf of our membership," Beattie said in a university statement published Wednesday, Aug. 26. He called the role "an honor" and said the committee plays a vital part in making the championship experience fair and meaningful for student-athletes at every member institution.

Beattie joined the committee in September 2023, according to an NCAA committee report, when Nathan Gibson of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs was serving as chair. Beattie moves into the top seat as part of the panel's regular leadership transition.

Three years on the committee gave him a front-row view of how Division II championships operate.

West Chester competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and fields 23 varsity teams. The Golden Rams have won seven NCAA Division II national championships, the most recent in field hockey in 2019.

Beattie's first order of business as chair begins when the new term opens Tuesday, Sept. 1.
