A Prospect Park man used photos of a 14-year-old girl taken at West Goshen Community Park to generate AI child sexual abuse videos, a criminal complaint alleges.
Robert J. Mayberry, 41, faces 32 charges including child sexual abuse material production, invasion of privacy and criminal use of a communication facility, as first reported by the Daily Local. He was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 21, and arraigned before District Judge Anthony diFrancesca, who set bail at 10 percent of $75,000. Mayberry posted bail.
The case began in June when Mayberry's girlfriend contacted West Goshen police after finding AI-generated images and videos on his phone, according to the criminal complaint filed by West Goshen Det. Kyle Maye. The woman told police she accessed a password-protected hidden folder on Mayberry's phone and found what she described as disturbing images of an apparent juvenile.
She also found "upskirting" photos of women and photographed the images on Mayberry's phone to show detectives, the complaint states.
On June 18, police obtained a warrant to search Mayberry's Honda Accord. Officers located the car at the King of Prussia Mall, where Mayberry worked, and followed him south on Route 202. They stopped him on Paoli Pike in West Goshen around 6:40 p.m. and seized a MacBook, an iPhone, a Google cellphone, a flash drive and nine SD cards.
Over the following weeks, police obtained additional warrants for forensic examination of the devices and records from Google, Apple and the AI platform Grok.
Investigators found 76 AI-generated videos and 53 AI images that police described as child sexual abuse material, according to the complaint. One SD card also contained seven images of child sexual abuse material that were not AI-generated.
Police also found 48 photos of a 14-year-old at a park. A gazebo visible in the photos led police to identify the location as West Goshen Community Park. Police said the girl in those photos is an identical match to a girl depicted in one of the AI-generated videos. Metadata showed the park photos were taken June 8 shortly after 6 p.m., and the matching AI video was created June 10, the complaint states.
Separately, investigators found 153 upskirting videos on Mayberry's phone, recorded using an app called Descreet, which is listed in the Apple app store as a camera app for recording without drawing attention. Most of the victims appeared to be young teenage girls, according to the complaint.
"He was targeting girls, females on the escalator, walking around the mall," Det. Maye told NBC10. Investigators believe many of the upskirting videos were recorded at the King of Prussia Mall, along with Wawa and Target locations.
Warrant returns from Grok showed the AI-generated images were no longer stored on the platform, but the text prompts Mayberry allegedly used remained. His account used the word "adolescent" 994 times and "preteen" 31 times, the complaint states. Investigators said there were hundreds of prompts describing scenes of child sexual abuse.
NBC10 reported that Mayberry worked at the Therabody store inside the King of Prussia Mall. A Therabody spokesperson told the station the employee had been placed on leave. Sources told NBC10 that Mayberry has been banned from the mall.
Mayberry's attorney, Steven F. O'Meara of Media, had no comment when contacted by the Daily Local on Monday, Oct. 26.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Goshen Township police.
