A Chester County health inspector found raw beef stored above cooked and ready-to-eat foods at Rolling Stars LLC, a breakfast and bagel spot at 706 E. Market St., Suite 200 during a Wednesday inspection.

The cross-contamination finding was one of several violations at the establishment, which also included an employee handling cooked fries and bacon after cracking a raw egg without changing gloves, according to the inspection report published by MyChesCo.

Inspectors directed management to train employees to remove and replace gloves when switching between raw and ready-to-eat foods. They also ordered the facility to store raw animal products below cooked items.

A second employee was observed eating a french fry while working along the main food-preparation line. Food employees may not eat or drink while handling food or equipment, the report states.

Labeling and cleanliness issues

Beyond the food-handling violations, inspectors found several portions of deli meats and cheeses in refrigerators without required date labels, according to the report. Refrigerated foods held more than 24 hours must be marked with their preparation or opening date and used within seven days.

Rolling Stars was also directed to label squeeze bottles with the common names of their contents, clean or replace heat-damaged ceiling tiles, clean soiled ceiling vents and address floors and floor drains in the kitchen.

Six other facilities pass same-day inspections

Six other establishments inspected the same day were listed in compliance, including Gryphon Cafe at 111 W. Gay St. in downtown West Chester. The others were Grid Iron Sports Bar & Pizzeria in Phoenixville, La Jalisciense Grocery Store in Toughkenamon, Malvern Food LLC in Malvern, Stampede Barbecue in Glenmoore and United Downingtown in Downingtown.

The Chester County Health Department notes that inspection reports reflect conditions at a facility at the date and time of the visit and may not represent its long-term record.
