More than a thousand spectators, many in costume, lined West Chester's sidewalks Wednesday, Oct. 28, for the borough's annual Halloween Parade.
The 40-minute procession stepped off at 7 p.m. and wound through downtown under clear fall skies, with temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s, the Daily Local reported. The West Chester Police Department Color Guard led the march. Several marching bands performed Michael Jackson's "Thriller" along the route.
West Chester resident Chris D'Alessandro, who rode a Vespa in the parade with his wife while the couple dressed as dalmatians, summed up the evening: "No politics, no nonsense, just fun. It's a good time. West Chester is a great place to live."
The borough's event notice had listed a $20 special event parking fee in all borough-owned garages and surface lots from 4 to 8 p.m. Road closures on Gay Street, Market Street and surrounding blocks ran from 4 to 9 p.m.
