Barnaby's on South High Street in West Chester faces a new round of food-safety violations after Chester County health inspectors found insect activity at bar areas, debris in an upstairs ice machine and raw shrimp stored above ready-to-eat foods during a follow-up inspection on Monday, Aug. 17.
The inspection at 15 S. High St. was a follow-up to Barnaby's July 2026 inspection, when the restaurant received 16 violations including similar cross-contamination problems, according to Hello West Chester.
Inspectors documented insect activity in a soda-gun holster at the downstairs banquet bar and directed the establishment to obtain professional pest-control service and submit the resulting report to the Health Department, according to Chester County Health Department inspection records reported by MyChesCo.
A small cooler at the main bar was holding food above the required maximum of 41 degrees Fahrenheit. A low-temperature dishwasher at the dance bar produced less than the required 50 parts per million of chlorine sanitizer during its final rinse.
The raw shrimp was relocated during the inspection.
Two West Chester restaurants pass after roach citations
La Rancherita Mexican Taqueria at 323 E. Gay St. and Rey Azteca Mexican Restaurant, both in West Chester, passed their Aug. 17 inspections with no violations.
The clean reports mark a turnaround for both restaurants. La Rancherita was cited on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 for evidence of "multi-generational cockroach activity" in its kitchen and food preparation areas. The operator had undergone pest-control treatment on Aug. 12 and scheduled another for the evening of Aug. 14, according to the Health Department's records. Rey Azteca faced its own emergency pest-control order in late July after inspectors found roach activity, as we reported Aug. 13.
Pizza Hut in West Chester also passed. In total, six establishments countywide were listed as in compliance, while five received violations.

Barnaby's must hire a professional pest-control service and submit documentation to the Health Department. No specific deadline or follow-up inspection date was listed in the report.
