Chester County Hospital wants to keep a temporary mobile MRI unit on its West Goshen campus for two more years, through Dec. 1, 2028.
The Penn Medicine hospital will ask the West Goshen Township Zoning Hearing Board for a variance at a public hearing Monday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. The hearing will take place at the Township Administration Building, 1025 Paoli Pike.
The mobile MRI sits on the hospital's 18.3-acre property at 701 E. Marshall St., zoned in the township's MSD Medical-Service District. The hospital needs relief from Section 84-67.A(6) of the zoning ordinance, which limits how long a temporary mobile MRI permit can last. The variance would add two years beyond the current permit period, as MyChesCo reported Sept. 18.
When the original permit was first issued and why the hospital still needs the mobile unit are not stated in public records. The board has not yet acted on the request.
A public notice for the hearing was published in the Daily Local News on Sept. 15. The township's zoning ordinance, Chapter 84, was originally adopted in December 1972 and has been amended numerous times since. The MSD Medical-Service District governs the hospital campus.
A second case on the Sept. 28 agenda involves a property at 4 Prospect Ave. Applicant Hank Koppenol wants to replace an existing shed with a 30-by-30-foot detached garage on a 0.17-acre lot that already holds a single-family home and two detached garages. The lot sits in the C-2 Commercial Shopping Center District, and Koppenol needs a variance from Section 84-58.K, which restricts expanding nonconforming uses.
Residents who want to attend the hearing or view the applications can call the West Goshen Township Administration Office at 610-696-5266. Additional information is available on the township calendar.
