The Aug. 7 shooting at the Summit House condominium complex in East Goshen Township has been ruled a suicide, the Chester County District Attorney's Office and Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police announced Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The determination closes the criminal investigation into the incident, which left a woman in her 40s dead and a 9-year-old girl wounded by gunfire at the 400 Building on West Chester Pike.

The girl continues to recover from her injuries, according to investigators. She was conscious and able to speak with officers when they arrived on the scene.

The DA's Office said in a statement that the shooting was an isolated incident with no threat to the general public, reaffirming what officials said the day of the shooting, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The office offered condolences to the family and asked that its privacy be respected.

Police were dispatched just before 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, and found the girl with a gunshot wound. Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was airlifted to a hospital. Officers found the woman dead from a single gunshot wound inside the unit, with a gun recovered nearby.

Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe and Westtown-East Goshen Police Chief David Leahy held a press conference at Goshen Baptist Church that afternoon. De Barrena-Sarobe said detectives were in the early stages of the investigation and would investigate "as long as it takes," according to the Daily Local News.

Leahy said at the Aug. 7 press conference that "at no time was there a threat to members of the Summit House community."

Authorities have not released the identities of the woman or the child, nor disclosed their relationship.

Summit House management temporarily placed the complex on shelter-in-place the day of the shooting and closed the pool and clubhouse, though police told 6ABC that was out of an abundance of caution.
