Eastbound U.S. 30 through the Exton Bypass closes again tonight for the second straight night, shutting down the corridor between Quarry Road and Whitford Road from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday as crews finish milling and paving tied to a $6.8 million sinkhole repair project.

The first overnight closure ran Sunday night, Aug. 23. Tonight's Monday closure completes this phase of the work in West Whiteland and East Caln townships.

PennDOT is directing detoured traffic onto Quarry Road, then Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and Route 100 (Pottstown Pike). The agency advised motorists to plan extra travel time near the work zone and along the detour because backups are expected, according to MyChesCo.

The schedule is weather-dependent.

What's behind the closures

The work addresses sinkholes at two spots along the Exton Bypass between Lancaster Avenue and Clover Mill Road. Crews are drilling holes through the pavement in a grid pattern and injecting pressurized grout into underground voids to stabilize the ground, a technique called limited-mobility grouting. Additional tasks include reconstructing pavement, replacing drainage pipes and stabilizing roadside drainage swales.

West Chester-based Road-Con is the general contractor. The entire project is federally funded.

Tonight's closure follows earlier rounds on the same corridor. Westbound lanes closed weeknights Aug. 12 through Aug. 17, and a previous eastbound closure ran Aug. 18 through Aug. 21.

What comes next

Once the Exton Bypass work wraps up, the project shifts to eastbound Lancaster Avenue between U.S. 322 and Route 113. That phase brings a lane closure, not a full shutdown, running nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Tuesday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Aug. 28. That work is also weather-dependent.
