Identical twin guards Ava and Bella Mazur enter their junior seasons at West Chester University. The sisters share a resume few backcourt pairs can match: a state championship, 1,000 career points apiece and more than a decade on the same court.

The 5-foot-7 Ava (No. 3) and 5-foot-8 Bella (No. 5) grew up in Linwood, New Jersey, and attended Mainland Regional High School, where both hit the 1,000-point milestone as seniors. They have played year-round together since age 10, according to a Sept. 21 feature in The Quad, WCU's student newspaper.

Ava told The Quad the sport grabbed her at age 5, inspired by her older brother playing the game. That competitiveness carried over to her twin. In practice, the sisters guard each other without pulling punches.

"We definitely don't hold back and play like we normally do … with hustle and grit!" Ava said.

Their sophomore stat lines were strikingly close.

Ava averaged 2.3 assists per game and shot 38.5 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. Bella averaged 1.9 assists and shot 37.8 percent. Bella edged her sister with 25 steals to Ava's 22 and logged six more minutes per game, according to The Quad.

The roles have diverged slightly. Bella has settled into a larger starting role, while Ava contributes as a passer and guard off the bench. Head coach Keira Wooden praised her six New Jersey guards, a group that includes the Mazur twins, after a Nov. 30, 2025, win over Jefferson. Wooden told City of Basketball Love the group "can play both ends of the floor" and "can definitely score."

Ava's path has not been smooth. During her freshman year she suffered an ankle injury late in one of her best games and missed time. She told The Quad her twin and her family supported her through the recovery, and the setback taught her patience.

West Chester finished 15-15 overall and 11-10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in 2025-26, reaching the PSAC Quarterfinals under Wooden. She enters her 13th season with a career record above .600.

Ava told The Quad her junior-year goals are to stay healthy, keep improving and help the Golden Rams make a deep playoff run. The season opens Friday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. against Salem University at Hollinger Field House. PSAC play begins Friday, Dec. 4, at Slippery Rock.
