Pine + Quill, a women-owned home goods and gift shop at 23 N. Walnut St. in downtown West Chester, reaches its sixth anniversary in November.
Owner Dianna DeStefano opened the store in late 2020 after spending 15 years as an environmental scientist, as first reported by Riley Thornton in the WCU Quad, the West Chester University student newspaper. DeStefano, a Chester County native, told the Quad she had no formal business training and funded the shop with a credit card.
The store carries local original artwork, handmade jewelry, wood boards, National Park and travel maps, terrariums and furniture, according to its website. Pine + Quill is also a dealer for Thibaut + Anna French Wallpaper and carries brands including Forty West Designs, Villa & House and Woodbridge Furniture.
One seasonal draw is the shop's live pumpkin terrariums, crafted by a West Chester resident. DeStefano told the Quad that customers return each fall specifically for them.
"Target's not gonna pick this stuff up," she said, explaining her focus on goods made by local artisans.
In an April 2025 Downtown West Chester Business Spotlight, DeStefano described the atmosphere she aims for: "I want my customers to walk in and instantly feel their blood pressure drop!"
Pine + Quill hosts monthly creative workshops and vendor pop-ups in its lower level. Three sessions are scheduled for October:
