West Chester-based Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc. says its molluscum contagiosum drug YCANTH clears the skin infection about four times faster than a placebo, according to a new pooled analysis the company released Sept. 30.
The analysis combined data from Verrica's two completed Phase 3 trials, known as CAMP-1 and CAMP-2. Patients treated with YCANTH, also called VP-102, reached complete clearance at a hazard ratio of 4.06 compared with the vehicle group, with a 95% confidence interval of 2.94 to 5.74. By Day 84 of treatment, 60.1% of YCANTH patients had achieved complete clearance, versus 19.9% for vehicle, according to the company's press release.
The findings are drawn from a post-hoc pooled analysis, not a new clinical trial. That distinction matters. It limits the conclusions that can be drawn beyond the original studies.
Molluscum contagiosum is a contagious viral skin infection that affects an estimated 6 million people in the United States, mostly children. YCANTH is the first and only FDA-approved treatment administered by a healthcare professional for the condition in adults and children age 2 and older.
Chief Medical Officer Noah Rosenberg said in the Sept. 30 announcement that the data supports treating patients sooner rather than waiting for the infection to resolve on its own. "This data, demonstrating more rapid complete clearance with YCANTH, independent of disease duration, gives clinicians a clear, data-driven rationale for early intervention rather than watchful waiting," Rosenberg said.
Verrica President and CEO Jayson Rieger said in the press release that three times as many YCANTH patients achieved complete clearance compared with vehicle at every time point measured during the two trials. The faster clearance held regardless of how long patients had the disease before treatment, MyChesCo reported.
VRCA stock closed up 8.59% on Sept. 30, the day the press release was issued, according to StockTitan.
The company plans to present the pooled analysis at two dermatology conferences this month. The first is the Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference at the Wynn Las Vegas, running Thursday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 11, with a poster session on Friday, Oct. 9. The second is the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance Annual Conference in Alexandria, Va., running Thursday, Oct. 15 through Saturday, Oct. 17, with a poster reception on Oct. 15.
Verrica will also present an encore poster in Las Vegas on exploratory Phase 2 findings for VP-315, its investigational immunotherapy for basal cell carcinoma. Those results were previously shown at the 2026 Society for Investigative Dermatology Annual Meeting.
