Decorated porches and front doors across West Chester are part of a borough-wide scavenger hunt organized by the West Chester Public Library.

The library's Halloween Door Tour runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. For a donation to the library, participants receive a map and a list of scavenger items to spot during the self-guided walk, according to a listing on Chester County Tourism's events page. Yards on the tour display a Halloween Door Tour sign so walkers know where to look.

The tour began Friday, Oct. 16. Maps were emailed to donors on or before Oct. 15, and paper copies have been available at the library, at 415 N. Church St., since Oct. 15.

Participants who complete the scavenger hunt can submit their answers to the library by Saturday, Nov. 7, for a chance to win a prize. The library asks that visitors respect the neighborhoods and locations as they walk by.

More Halloween in West Chester

The borough's Halloween season stretches well beyond the door tour.

The West Chester Halloween Parade steps off at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, starting at Church Street and Market Street and looping through downtown, according to a local events roundup by Christine Langdon. The parade is free. Candy stations along the route give each child one goodie bag.

After the parade, local marching bands and cheer and dance teams perform on Market Street. The rain date is Thursday, Oct. 29.

Groups that want to enter a float or walk in the parade can register through West Chester Parks and Recreation under the "Special Events" tab.

The Chester County History Center is also running dark history walking tours through Halloween.
