Downtown West Chester shuts down Gay Street on Sunday, Sept. 20, for the 45th Annual Restaurant and Food Truck Festival. The free event brings more than 65 restaurants, caterers and food vendors, live music on three stages and nearly 110 arts and crafts booths to several blocks of the borough's downtown core.

The festival runs from noon to 5:30 p.m., according to the borough's festival page. Admission is free.

West Chester Borough Parks and Recreation, which manages the event, posted an alert on the morning of Sept. 19 confirming the festival is on as scheduled. The department said it would continue to monitor weather. If rain forces a postponement, the rain date is Sunday, Sept. 27.

Six bands will play across three stages throughout the day. Performance locations include Gay Street at Matlack Street, Gay Street at Darlington Street and the corner of Market and Church streets. Band names had not been announced as of Sept. 19.

The Church Street Beer and Wine Garden, at Gay and Church streets, will pour craft Pennsylvania beer, cider and wine. Proceeds benefit the West Chester Parks and Recreation Send A Kid To Camp Fund.

Denny Dyroff, entertainment editor at The Times, described the milestone in a Sept. 18 preview: "This year, the free festival … is a party – a 45th birthday party."

The festival footprint covers Gay Street between Matlack and Darlington streets, Walnut Street between Market Street and Prescott Alley, High Street between Market and Chestnut streets, and Church Street between Market and Chestnut streets.

Streets will close to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closures include East and West Gay Street from Matlack to New Street, West Market Street from High to New Street, the 50 block of North Matlack Street from Market Street to Gay Street, and sections of North Walnut, North High, North Church, North Darlington and North New streets.
