West Goshen Township supervisors could vote as soon as Tuesday, Sept. 15, on a parks plan that covers all 14 township parks and runs more than 200 pages.
The Board of Supervisors authorized the Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan for public review at its July 7 meeting, according to a township notice. The comment period closed Sept. 8. The Sept. 15 board meeting is the next scheduled session, though the township had not posted an agenda for that meeting as of Sunday, Sept. 13.
Cara Corridoni, author of the Hello, West Chester newsletter, flagged the plan Sept. 13 and wrote that "some fear not a lot of awareness of what's going on."
No named residents have spoken on the record about the plan's contents.
Toole Recreation Planning prepared the document for the township, funded by a Vision Partnership Program Grant from Chester County. A steering committee that included supervisors, Planning Commission members, the Park and Recreation Board, the Sustainability Advisory Committee and township staff guided the work. The plan supplements the township's 2019 Comprehensive Plan and is meant to shape the parks system for several years.
Township Manager Christopher Bashore said in a June update that the plan would be presented to supervisors at the July 7 meeting. The full document is posted on the township website, but the township's public notice does not summarize the specific park-by-park proposals.
One project already underway ties into the broader parks effort. The township has secured $510,500 in state and county funding since 2023 for improvements at West Goshen Community Park on Fern Hill Road. That total includes a $60,500 grant from state Sen. Carolyn Comitta for a splash pad, to be administered through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Construction on a family bathroom expansion at the park was underway as of June, and Carroll Engineering was finalizing splash pad design plans with work expected to begin this fall.
Board Chair Shaun Walsh leads the five-member Board of Supervisors, which also includes Vice Chair John Hellmann and members Ashley Gagné, Tinamarie Smith and Nate Wolman, as listed in September 2025 meeting minutes.
Residents can contact Bashore at [email protected] or Park and Recreation Director Kenneth Lehr at [email protected]. The next Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the township building, 1025 Paoli Pike.
