West Goshen will receive $1.2 million in state grants for sewer and stormwater upgrades, the largest share of a $2.2 million Chester County infrastructure package awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
The West Goshen Sewer Authority received $700,000 for pump station improvements at three locations: the Washington Street Pump Station, Montgomery Avenue Pump Station and Ellis Lane Pump Station, the Daily Local reported. West Goshen Township received a separate $500,000 grant for stormwater infrastructure improvements in the North Hill subdivision.
The pump station work includes new generators, submersible pumps, flow meters, sluice gates and variable frequency drives, along with control system upgrades, structural wet well repairs and site work, according to a separate Daily Local report on Sen. Carolyn Comitta's announcement of the same grants.
State Rep. Chris Pielli, D-Chester, announced the grants in a press release dated Sept. 15. Comitta, a state senator representing the area, separately announced the sewer authority grant as part of a nearly $1.6 million set of five infrastructure projects across Chester County.
Together, West Goshen's two awards represent more than half the $2.2 million package, according to myChesco.
The grants come from the CFA's Local Share Account program, which distributes Pennsylvania gaming revenue to community and economic development projects. The CFA is a seven-member state board of cabinet members and legislative appointees. Neither Pielli nor Comitta sits on it or votes on grant approvals, according to Broad + Liberty.
Pielli said in his press release that the grants support public safety improvements, infrastructure projects and local tourism that brings millions of dollars in revenue to area businesses.
Beyond West Goshen, the package includes $400,000 to Chester County for 911 call center software and equipment and $252,761 to the Chester County Water Resources Authority for flood safety sensors and signs. It also includes $200,000 to Chester County for kiosks at heritage sites, $150,000 to East Bradford Township for Sunset Hollow Road Bridge lane repairs and $50,546 to the Regional Clothing Distribution Van Project.
No construction timeline has been announced for either West Goshen project.
