West Goshen residents will pay more for trash pickup starting next year after the Board of Supervisors awarded a new three-year waste and recycling contract to Republic Services on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The contract locks in a 9.6% cost increase for collection services, Township Manager Christopher Bashore wrote in an announcement on the township's website on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The exact dollar amount residents will see on their bills has not been set. The township has not published the current per-household rate, so the dollar impact of the increase is unclear. That figure will be determined during the 2027 budget process.

The board's vote was not recorded in the announcement, and individual supervisor positions were not disclosed.

The deal runs through Dec. 31, 2029, and keeps service levels unchanged: trash collection twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, bulk item pickup on Thursdays, recycling on Mondays, and yard and leaf waste collection on Saturdays year-round. Christmas tree collection also continues.

Once-a-week option ruled out

The board had previously discussed surveying residents about switching to once-a-week trash pickup. That idea is off the table. Bashore said the bids showed no cost savings from reducing collection frequency, so supervisors determined a community survey was unnecessary and kept the twice-weekly schedule.

The township did not release the names of other companies that bid on the contract or say whether Republic Services was the incumbent hauler.
