The Star Vocal Competition returns to West Chester in October for a sixth season of live singing rounds and cash prizes.
The adult competition runs four consecutive Sundays at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center, the 327-seat theater at 226 N. High St. Preliminary rounds are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, Sunday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 18. All three begin at 4:30 p.m. The finale takes the stage Sunday, Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m.
Each week, contestants perform before a panel of music and entertainment industry judges and compete for cash prizes, performance opportunities and the Season 6 Champion title, according to the Uptown! event listing. Uptown! describes the prize pool as "thousands of dollars."
Past contestants have gone on to perform at the Apollo Theater, appear on American Idol, tour nationally and perform on Broadway, according to the venue. Five previous seasons have sent singers into professional entertainment careers.
Finale tickets cost $36 in advance and $41 at the door, with all fees included.

Board President Bob Lohrmann, who took the role in July, told the Daily Local that month that the theater's purpose depends on events that bring artists and audiences together.
"The building without the community engagement is an empty shell and doesn't have any life or soul," Lohrmann said in the July interview.
The Star is one example of that mission in action. The competition pairs emerging singers with industry professionals and puts them in front of a live audience at the downtown venue.
